Hi My wife has just purchased a laptop with XPhome pre installed. When went online to register was informed of a series of updates the total of which could take up to 4 hours to download. Is any way of having these patches and updates by post on a CD please? Incidently whilst on line to Microsoft the system was attacked by a worm which Noton picked up but was unable to clean or repair without downloading more software to repair it.
The largest update is probably SP1 which is available on the cover disc of some PC magazines and the magazines relating specifically to XP. Its also available on CDROM from Microsoft for a small payment.
Why can't Microsoft help out those of us who live in areas that have no chance of getting broadband to download these large updates by putting them on CDs. They could then distribute them to large computer stores for a nominal fee (or even free as it seems a lot of these updates are having to be put out due to Microsoft bugs.) I think Microsoft could afford it seeing how much it costs us for each new system.
