click here;en-us;q310994 offers a downloadable version of the XP recovery console for floppy discs.

Is it available as a download to burn onto CD?

Will I need a new version now that xp SP3 is out ?

Interesting. My reading is that this is a Setup utility and not a repair utility. I dont know if it will go as far as the Recovery Console (although Win2000Pro did). You could always try it to see and let us know! It also appears that SP3 will make a difference and if you have it installed then the download will not work as they are specific to SPs. If you want to burn it to CD why not just use an XP cd to access the Recovery Console? If you have XP Home, use an XP Home CD, if you have XP Pro use an XP Pro CD.

Yes, if you grab the XP boot floppy set for the appropriate version of XP and Combofix, drag the floppy archive over the Combofix icon to install Recovery Console. click here

If there's a new boot floppy set for XPSP3 I would assume the answer to your final question is Yes.

Extract all the files from the boot archive, get yourself a boot image from an XP CD, combine the two into a very limited bootable CD. I don't know if that would work....

Why not install it to hard disk as a boot option.
