Hi everyone,
reinstalled xp on laptop, takes about an hour to load, then mouse poiter absconds then reappears 5min later, freezes, works for 10sec, then absconds again.
installed win2000 + vista, both ok, tried xp as partition to them both, but xp still the same!.
have formatted disc, checked for bad sectors, used safe mode,(ok) returned bios to default,

On base of laptop, key for win2000 + xp, ( one time choice only) when I use the xp key it tells me its invalid, so I use key of old pc, to install xp. could this be the problem?.
no recovery cd as I bought of ebay 4 months ago.
need help, thanks in advance, Tom

Sounds as if you have a corrupted file being installed from your XP CD possibly a diver.

Can you boot to safe mode for XP (F8 during boot up)?

Hi Fruit Bat
Thanks for your reply
yes I can boot to safe mode ok, at the moment I have vista installed but its to much for the laptop, I will be trying to install XP again, so I can't try any advice you give me at the moment, maybe I could put your name in a post after I install xp again ?

Please let me know if this would be ok.

thanks again Fruit Bat, Tom
