My PC has just informed me that Windows Virtual Memory is running low so it's increasing the size of the paging file. Yet at the same time I have 670 Mb of free RAM. I'm runing XP Pro, Photoshop CS, Indesign CS 3, Excel. Can anyone explain this and what I can do to avoid tis in future?

You have too many background Programs running at boot, go to start\run Type MSCONFIG press enter go to startup tab and start removing ticks from boxes that do not need to start at boot

Thanks both. Have read both articles, the 2nd being more understaable (just) so I'm a bit wiser now.

BUt how do I know which boxes I can ubtick - trial and error?

You can go back after and re-tick them if something is needed
