Hi I have just built my own system and I am going to put XP on it.

Which one will be best for me?

PC is used for surfing, e-mail, music CD and DVD writing etc

My daughter is getting a laptop for christmas. We want to set up a wireless network to connect both to our broadband cable modem.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Well I had XP Home on my machine till last week when it crashed....I now have a (legitimate) copy of XP Professional ......to be honest I cannot see the difference .....either will work all your applications (games and software)....big difference is price ...Home around £90GBP XP (£160GBP).....

PC World prices XP Home £179.99 XP Pro about £250 (Full versions not upgrades)

And once you install SP2 whichever version you have is renamed simply Windows XP (the 'Home' or 'Professional' tag disappears).

Perhaps Microsoft's attempt to make a 'generic' version of XP?

Save your money - go for Home.

Pro is mainly aimed at networking so I would go for home.
