I've networked three XP based PC's into Win98 based networks. On each occation the XP is very slow to register itself with the network. One was onto a domain, two were just peer2peer. Once on they were fine but with the latest imstallation it took a couple of minutes before any network activity was ok, before that it returned an error saying network address unavailable etc etc, a mapped drive was shown as not conected and yet became live eventually although under My Computer it remained shown as dissconnected (ie red cross through icon). Can anyone explain what XP is doing all this time. Needless to say the Win98 PC come up almost immeadiatly
