XP Login Problem

  BPD 12:13 18 Jun 2007

My sytem, running XP Pro boots ok, but when anybody tries to login in, it only gets as far as clearing the other usernames/icons, displays the usual message underneath my username/icon that login is in progress, but then followed by logout in progress. This takes me back to the login again.

Is there a way that I can get into the system to do a restore? (I installed and ran AVG anti-virus software and I suspect that it has vaulted some critical windows programmes)

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me.

Thanks VoG I will do this.
Excuse my ignorance, the text says type in the built in Administrator password to enter the Console. Do you know what the built-in password is?
