XP Home. Windows Media player problem.

Just installed English version of XP Home edition after unistalling German Version. This is working great, but now I have 2 problems to solve :-

1) When I try to play Windows Media player I get this message, and don't know what the problem is.

" Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly. "

Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

2)When browsing a web page my scrolling now comes in a wave formation. This is driving me crazy. Any ideas.? Many thanks for all input.

2) Internet Explorer, Tools/Internet Options, Advanced tab. tick Use smooth scrolling.
