This enables a permanent internet connection with multiple users on your PC under Windows XP.

Click on Start/Run and type Regedit.

In the Registry Editor navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

Then right-click in the right-hand pane and select New/String Value. Name the value KeepRasConnections.

Double click the new key and set its value to 1.

That should have solved it, but you can try:

Go to Control Panel; Internet Options and choose the Connections tab.

Ensure that 'Always dial my Default connection' is selected. Click Apply.

Then choose Settings; Advanced. Ensure that 'Disconnect if idle for xx minutes' is NOT ticked and also that 'Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed' is NOT ticked. Click OK.

I recall somewhere seeing a tick box along the lines of "use this connection for anyone using this computer" but I can't seem to find it now!

Perhaps this needs to be ticked (and somebody else knows where ro find it!).

The tick box you're referring to is one of the options when first setting up a new connection.

Thereafter it's not available (unless you delete the current connection and set it up again from scratch).

Thanks for that - I knew I had seen it somewhere!
