XP freezing ........... again

  fonkets 19:50 04 Apr 2007

Having installed regcure and ccleaner, the performance improved but 24hrs later the pc froze.

A ram test showed nothing and theres nothing of note in the event viewer.

What is worrying though, a motherboard test shows my cpu running at -55c, yes thats a minus!!

Do these programs not have a backup or a go-back option like many reg cleaners have?

  fonkets 20:35 04 Apr 2007

Unfortunately, the problem existed before I ran the above.

I ran them to try and cure the prob.

What programs were running on your computer when it froze.

Was it just running very slow or had it crashed comletely.

If it was just running very slow did you try Alt. Ctrl, Del. To start task manager to see what is taking up all the CPU's time

First try a Graphics Driver Update, Also check all Fans in the Computer By LOOKING at them

A couple of other points, what memory tester was you using, have you checked if there are any motherboard updates, especially as it is miss-reading your CPU temperature.

  woodchip 22:16 04 Apr 2007

At that temp, I make no wonder it's freezing

  fonkets 22:32 04 Apr 2007

Freezing is random. Sometimes it freezes even when idling. There seems to be no pattern or symptom prior.

ctrl+alt+del does nothing I have to press reset.

There are no driver updates for graphics card.

There are two versions of my motherboard its a Gigabyte ga-7vm400m. I dont know whether its version 1 or 2. The spec appears identical and there's nothing in the book or the board.

  fonkets 22:42 04 Apr 2007

Sorted....... its version 2.

Its giving me 5 different drivers. Audio, Lan, Chipset, Usb and vga. Any preference or the lot.

The audio, chipset and lan are more recent.

  woodchip 22:48 04 Apr 2007

Chipset and VGA

a faulty psu can cause this behaviour. there are often no error messages.
