XP Freeze on Boot up

On 1st of June I received and installed a Crucial 512MB 184Pin DIMM PC3200
DDR RAM Non-Parity CL3. On switching the computer on, it did the post test,
then moved to the next window, accounts page, and then locked up. The only
way to switch it of was at the mains plug. I left the computer for a couple
of minutes and then restarted it, it connected to my accounts page, started
windows and again locked up. I switched it of at the mains, waited a couple
of minutes more then switched it back on, this time it connected all the
way and was working fine.

Saturday the 3rd June, I clicked on a dial up connection and the computer
went into re-start mode, went through to the accounts page and locked up. I
switched the computer of, waited and restarted the computer with no
problems. There was no further problems and on the 10th of June I tried the
same dial up connection and it worked perfectly.

Today the 12th June I switched on the computer, it went through the post
test on to the accounts page, and locked up. Followed the same routine of
switching off and waiting, then re-trying half a dozen times, still no
luck. Switched the computer off and "Removed" the memory module, switched
the computer back on and it has loaded and works perfectly.

To-day I clicked on the same dial up connection "With out" the new memory module and the computer went into restart mode to the accounts page and then locked up, switched of, switched on and windows loaded.

My computer is:

Mesh Matrix AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.08GHz 1.00GB of RAM Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2

I checked on Crucial website with Crucial System Scanner for the correct
module which was: Crucial 512MB 184Pin DIMM PC3200 DDR RAM Non-Parity CL3.
That will give me 1.50GB of RAM.

As a first step, try removing ALL your memory modules, cleaning their contacts with a clean eraser, blowing out any dust etc. from their sockets, then reinsert them. (The kind of symptoms you are experiencing can sometimes be caused by intermittent memory module contacts.)
