xp firewall versus Zone alarm

What if any are the advanteges of Zone alarm pro over the firewall provided in Windows XP

bit like comparing feroceous dog with chocolate teapot, the free homeuser version of Zonealarm is more than adequate but if you feel the need for the extra protection ZaPro is probably one of the best around..

I got Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite works like a dream it does!!!

my preference is sygate and no windows firewall for obvious reasons.

Windows firewall is incomming only

ZA checks in and out and therefore will alert you to trojans spyware and disllers trying to pass your info out of the PC.

No contest really, windows firewall is usekess due to the fact, as already stated, that it only blocks incoming. If a trojan gets in via an infected web page (by default no firewall will prevent a trojan gaining access via web page as theb browser needs access)then windows firewall will not prevent it transmitting data back out whereas zonealarm and most others will.

Why microsoft even bothered including their firewall in XP is a complete mystery. All the stuff microsoft go on and on about relating to pc security then include what is probably the weakest and most useless firewall ever.
Zone alarm beats it hands down, even the free one.

Another vote for ZoneAlarm from me.

As Rob_24_Wales has already said, I'm looking to upgrade to the Security Suite aswell.

Are there any compatability issues with ZA and the free Grisoft Anti Virus programme?

I just use the WinXP firewall & AVG free antivirus - never had a single problem in over a year (previously used Norton, but slowed down the PC).

If you don't click on any link you come across, don't use P2P software to download stuff & don't visit any dodgy (incl some porn) sites, IMHO the WinXP firewall is sufficient.

The free McAfee SiteAdvisor click here & MailWasher click here - apart from the usual Windows Defender, Ad-aware, Spybot-S&D, SpywareBlaster, etc - can be good additions too.

However, I can understand for peace of mind, use one of the free ones already mentioned - you don't really need a Pro (paid-for) firewall unless there's a very good reason for it. G
