XP Dial up problem (smtp server)

  welky 09:40 05 Oct 2007

This has been driving me nuts for days now.
Im setting up a acer aspire 1710 laptop running win xp pro and office pro 2003 for my grandparents.

They have a orange pay as you go dial up connection at 56kbs.

Their outgoing mail server is smtp.freeserve.co.uk

When at my house using orange broadband over a lynksis wireless router I can send and recieve email fine (as well as telnet smtp.freeserve.co.uk) however if I use the orange dial up it finds the pop server but not the smtp???

I have tried deleting and renewing the account and turning the firewall off to no avail.

The weirdest thing is that their old win 98 machine has no problem with connecting to the smtp server over their existing dial up connection.

Any help will be greatfully recived!
