XP - Can you help?

  WLB 09:30 27 Jan 2003

I have just upgraded from Win 98 SE to XP Home. Everything is fine except when I tried to connect to the internet. It seems to connect to my ISP but cannot open the home page or any other page. All I get is a DNS error message.

I tried deleting and re-creating my internet account, but get the same result. How am I telling you this on-line? I am using a different machine.

Can you get to a web page by typing its IP address directly into your browser?

Try typing in , it should bring up the bbc website.

The problem was resolved by wiping everything (after backing-up) and doing a clean install, first of Win 98SE, then setting up a dual boot with Win 2000 Pro (just in case) and then upgrading Win 98SE with XP Home again. I believe the problem was corrupt files/settings probably because the original upgrade was done on 98 with all existing programs and settings left in place. Anyway, it all works fine now. Thanks to all who responded. WLB
