xp boots from cd and does not turn off

i had to reinstall xp pro and booted from the cd since then it keeps booting from the cd even though there is no cd in the drive, i changed the bios to boot from the hdrive first as i have no floppy drive then the cd drive but it keeps rebooting and wont shut down,if i wont to shut down i have to switch it off at the back, would it be a problem to just leave it on all the time, even though it shuts the hdrive and monitor off, thanks

This sounds like something to do with Power Management rather than boot up - whether it's set to boot up from floppy, CD or hard drive doesn't make any difference in normal use.

Has it booted at all from HDD since installing?

If not then in BIOS change boot devie to HDD and HDD (do not have CD listed)

Once its boote from HDD then you can change BIOS back to CD 1st HDD 2nd

Can you try another PSU? Does it get into safe-mode properly first time?
