Wrong cpu speed on boot

Please help.

I have just upgraded my processor to an Athlon XP 3000+ on my XFX KT400-ALH motherboard (which I know I get very little support for) and when the BIOS boots, I get a Athlon XP 1750. Which is not right.

I have connected jumpers to make the correct FSB setting to 166 (DDR 333) and I still get this speed on the POST screen.

What is weirder is that when I originally got the PC 2 years ago, it was installed with an Athlon XP 2600 and this has always posted as 2000. But I ignored this. Now I have upgraded I get an even slower speed??? Hence this discussion thread!

So there has been something wrong since the beginning and I want to fix it as a lot of time and money has been put into this upgrade.

Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

I don't think there was anything wrong originally Jon, the Athlon XP2600 never did actually run at 2600. 2000 seems about right. But I don't know why your new 3000+ should be showing slower than the 2600.

I had a 2500+ and it ran at 1833Mhz so I agree the old speed was probably right. However I've been trying to find more info on your motherboard, unsuccessfully I might add, I'm wondering if theres a BIOS update for the board but so far I've been unable to find it, the XFX website is very unhelpful, the only mention I could find of the motherboards was in their Forum and that didn't help much.

Yeah I know, support for the motherboard is now by email only. I am awaiting a response but they always take ages to get back to me. I can get the BIOS upgrade from the support pages (have to regiser) but I don't know if it will help. Will try then get back to you.

Hi, I have an XP300+ and it runs at 2166Mhz.

May not help your problem , but this is the speed that you are aiming for.

oops. should have been Athlon XP3000+!!

  surfsteruk 12:07 07 Feb 2006

I have a 64Bit 3700+ and it runs at 2200Mhz

Yup BIOS updated as much as possible now.

No change 1750MHz

And I should have 2166MHZ.

How can I boost the speed?

  Totally-braindead 12:18 07 Feb 2006

My 3500+ Athlon 64 runs at 2.21Ghz, you may be stuck until there is a BIOS update from XFX unless theres another solution we missed.
You mention that you have the latest BIOS does it state that the xp3000+ is supported by this?

Go into BIOS and manually set CPU speed?

  Jon1414 13:22 07 Feb 2006

No, if only. I can only change the FSB speed. There is no option for setting the processor speed. It doesn't even tell me what the speed is in the BIOS screens.
