Writing a MS Word doc to a CD - fault

Would be grateful if anyone could let me know where to start......

have Windows XP and am trying just to write a MS Word doc onto a CD (had problems writing other media to a CD - no success) so thought I'd go back to basic MS Word doc.

When using the CD Writing Wizard.....
1. States it is writing data files to CD..
no lights flash by the CD drive
2. Shows estimated time left 5 seconds
3. Then freezes and nothing happens for a minute.
4. Then CD Wizard says Cannot complete the CD
Writing Wizard......There was an error in the writing process.....end of story !!

Where shall I start to correct / look into this ??

ps.......my CD plays audio CD's ok.

Do you have anything else running whilst trying to write the file to CD?

Also, have you tried writing to different blank CD's?

no nothing else running and also have tried different batches of CD's

Presumably you're using the native Windows CD writing jobby - didn't you get any burning software with your PC/CDRW? The Windows effort is pretty lamentable.

Before the CD Writing wizard starts up are you sending the files that you want to copy to the CD Writing device ie. in explorer, drag the file you want to copy to the cd writer. If you then click on the cd writer a temporary copy of the file should be there waiting to be written to CD.
