Every time I try to delete material on my old floppies I get the message "cannot delete, disk write protected. Remove write protection or use another disk." However, none of my floppies are write protected. Can anybody help please?

have you checked the write protection cover, it may have slipped

not to make you sound stupid but i`ve done it.

Try on another PC to estabish if your floppy drive is faulty.

Thanks TECHNODIMWIT, checked each floppy as I got the message but the write protect was not on.

Thanks Switcher, will try as you suggest.

Are these cheapie floppies? The quality of these things seems to have slipped of late; I've now given up making backups to floppies, preferring alternatives with no moving bits - like thumbdrives and CD-Rs. I had real problems with a batch of PCLines.

not worth trying to use old floppies - unless trying to read back old data. New are so cheap so if its worth saving on a floppy its worth using new.
