Problem. New CD-RW disk says that the disk is write protected. How do I 'un protect' it. So far I have formatted it but I dont think I need to.

It could be that the file you are trying to copy is copyright protected.

'The CD-RW in question was a blank straight out of the box. Tried another one and the same thing happened. Any Use. I was using the Windows XP facility.'

asilvey, please respond in the forum.

This is a known problem with certain machines, I think. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. Keep bumping it up, type 'Bump' in the Add response box, this evening. With luck it may catch the eye of someone who knows.

click here - "This behavior occurs because of a limitation in the CD recording program that is included with Windows XP. In order for XXXXXX to write a back up file directly to the CD-R or CD-RW, the compact disc must first be formatted and support packet writing. The Windows XP CD recording program does not support packet writing and does not contain a feature to format a recordable CD." The article talks specifically about Quicken files but the error/solutions are common for all. HTH, G
