Can anybody help me, please.
I'm on XP pro, using office 2003.
Recently, word documents have been taking a long time to open when I double-click on them.
Does anyone know why this might be happening, and what I can do to fix it.
It used to be instantaneous.
have I installed a recent update to office that's causing the problem.
any advice would be gratefully received.
thanks

One of the security programmes, I forget which one, scans word documents as they are opened.

This can slow things down considerably.

You could look in the fonts folder and clear out any that are not required. This sometimes helps...

I've had a look and can't see any Word updates.
I know that AVG - which I am using - will scan documents every time they are opened, but I am sure that I disabled the Office scan plug-in when I installed it.
Anyway - the good news is that they are all now opening quickly, as normal.
So - thank you all for your input.
I will close this thread as resolved.
thanks again
