Word table and the tab key

I'm fiddling about trying to update our personal phone book.
The main data source is pasted from a very beat-up Access record.

Converted from the pasted Access report table pages, now exists as a single column table, tabbing separates the person from their phone number.

I'm using Word 2007 and when typing in a new record can type the name but using the tab shoves me down into a new row and will not allow me to tab across to finish with the place for the number.

Merely altering the existing data is not a problem.

Methinks I ought to go back to Access and play with that hateful app once more. I used to understand what I was doing back in Access v.2 but that was ages ago!

Ctrl + Tab may well do what you want ie inserting tabs in a cell.

Alternatively as it is a single column convert the table to text (layout tab).
