Word styles gone astray

I use Word 2003 and make frequent use of custom styles.

When sending these files to other people the custom styles are also available for them to use, until just recently that is.

For some reason only the styles actually in use in a particular document are visible to the people I send the files to, yet I can still see all the styles in the document.

So If I send a document that uses styles 1 & 3 to someone else, and they want to use style 2, it doesn't show up on the list of styles they see. But if they send it back to me, all the styles are plainly there.

I'm hoping that there's some simple setting that needs altering amidst the myriad options in Word.

Shut down Word and try deleting your normal.dot template and then start Word again.

That should undo any changes that are built into the document automatically.

Thanks for the suggestion but that hasn't cured it.

I might try a complete reinstall and see if that does the trick.

Some versions of office have a "detect and repair" option. That might be worth a look.
