Word - problem when printing

  collinsc 09:13 01 Sep 2010

When i print a ocument there is about 2 inches of white space on every page, but when you do print preview it seems fine! any ideas?

Check your paper size. Often the default paper is 'Letter' (a US standard) whereas you are likely to be using A4.

Thanks, just checked, it is A4

is the printer itself set to A4 as well?

  compumac 09:54 01 Sep 2010

Where is the two inch space? What have you set the top and bottom margins to?

yes, printer is set to A4.

two inch space is at bottom of page. margins at top and bottom are 2.54cm.

Is this just with one document or does it happen with all documents?

  lotvic 11:18 01 Sep 2010

Is this a new printer or an old one that has suddenly started doing this?

  collinsc 11:19 01 Sep 2010

just the one! so it's something wrong with this one.

Just to clarify; are you saying that the page size is set as A4 in Word under 'Page Layout, Size' as well as in your printer dialogue?
I ask because this is a classic example of what happens when Word sends a letter size page to an A4 printer.

try using wordpad - do you still get the white? If not find normal.dot and rename it normal.old. Restart and try again.
