Word printing a mess! On screen document is fine

  Diemmess 18:24 05 Mar 2008

Whatever document I open looks fine until printed.

Tried copying to Wordpad, again looks OK but on printing --- spaces replaced with shifted characters and so on.

When using Word 97 this was cureable by deleting Normal.Dot

In Word 2000 I can't find Normal.dot to delete!

Panic! I need a decent printout for tomorrow am.

If you are on Windows XP normal.dot is a hidden file so you'll need to search for hidden files and folders to find it.

Have you done a Search for Normal.dot?

Yes thanks, I have searched all sorts and secret places. Nothing shows for normal.dot - this is the name I should be looking for isn't it?

  VoG II 18:40 05 Mar 2008

Yes, that's what you should be looking for and it definitely should exist.

Just in case yours is in the same folder as my normal.dot, it is in C:/Docs & Settings/Your Name/Application Data/Microsoft/Templates

If you can see that tree, you should be able to find the rogue template. I'm talking of Word 2000 as well.

It's the blank document that comes up when opening a New document in Word and call for a blank document.
