[In clear, simple steps, please if it really gets complicated.]

Install PrimoPDF click here

In Word, File > Print and select PrimoPDF as the printer.

Follow the prompts.

Buy and install Adobe Distiller. File > Print, choose distiller, then it saves and opens the pdf for you.

This is fine - except most of the formatting is lost in th Adobe to Word conversion, which is disastrous for a film script. However, if it's better than nothing ....

Many thanks.

It seems a bit rough and ready but you can save the full text from Acrobat 8 by clicking on File - Save as Text. Interestingly, the formatting (e.g. text flow round an image) seems to be fully retained.

Images can be transferred (individually) by clicking on them and copy/pasting them as normal.

So unless the document is v. complex, it seems to be possible to reconstitute it into Word format quite easily. And not a penny spent.

There are lots of utilities to do it - but they all seem rather more expensive...

BTW, to generate PDF from any application that can print, we use CutePDF which is a treat to use, click here. It needs GhostScript but that's also available on the link. And still not a penny spent... HTH.
