Word keeps 'preparing to install' when I load doc

I've managed to get my XP PC working with a recovery following my earlier issue and re-loaded various bits of software including Word.

When I double click on a Word document though I now get two windows, one of which says 'preparing to install' and the other 'the command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open etc. ...'

I did a bit of research which suggested it may be related to Norton which I have uninstalled and also run the Norton Removal Tool.

The problem still persists however.

can anyone help please?

it could be that the prog needs to be reinstalled after your problem or it could be that normal.dot has become corrupted. Search for normal.dot and rename it normal.old then start word. It will make a new normal.dot. If all now works ok then fine. If not you have to reinstall.

Tried that but no luck.

It's a fresh install of Office so I don't think a new re-install will help.

Try Detect and Repair on the Word Help Menu - you may need your Office disk handy

If norton was your anti virus, remember to re activate it.

I've got rid of Norton and replaced with AVG free.
