Word 2010

I have recently moved to word 2010.
I am having problems with the page view when I create a new document. I always create the new document in print layout view. Unfortunately for some reason the upper margin is not displayed on the screen so that the cursor starts at the top of the page. This makes setting up the document very difficult.
If I then go to file> print preview before printing the document it display normally with the upper margin present.
I know in previous version of word I have been able to change this but despite looking at page settings, view settings and paragraph settings I have been unable to change how the text appears on the page. I know it is something simple butI am dammed if I can make the changes.

I am still a happy dinosaur with Office XP but is it a function of the Normal.dot template? One used to be able to amend it that so whenever a new document started the attributes one wanted were always there.
