A client has a lot (300+) of important Word Documents which have just been rescued from a dying PC.They are in Word 2.0 format and they only have Word Pad and Works on their new(ish) Time PC (Win Me)They need to buy a copy of Word or Office (luckily there is a PC Fair every month 5 mins from their house) but i need to make sure they can import the old Word 2.0 files as Word Pad and Works won't.I'm looking towards Office 97 or 2000 but as i have Office XP i can't tell if the older version still supported Word 2.0 files....Can anyone help?
Word 2000 will open (and save) Word 2.0 files. At least that is an option in the 'File', 'Save As'.
Excellent - thank you.Can anyone confirm they have actually done this at all? (Not holding breath though)
If it's any help, I just downloaded a Word 2 format file from the net and it opened fine in Office XP (Word 2002)
I suspect that despite changing the file format on every release MS have built in backwards compatability. There would be howls of outrage from the business community were that not the case.
It would appea that Word 2002 doesn't support opening Word 2.0 files....At least i can't see the option to anyway ...
AndyJ and Big Elf - thank you...
If I'm reading the chart correctly at click here then I may have been wrong in my earlier posts. It looks as though many version of 'Word Perfect' do read them though.
To confirm (why didn't i think of this earlier) I got one of the disk i used to save the work on, ran Restoration and recovered the deleted files. They opened in Word 2002 fine. No problem....Cheers all
