HiI cant get the '~' ( forget what its called ) to work in Dos from within Windows or from the prompt.Any suggestions, please ?
It's called a tilde.What do you get ?
Do you get any symbol at all when you press that key? If you get a different symbol what is it? Which version of Windows have you got?
It'll be because your keyboard is not set up correctly to match it's layout.I presume we're talking UK keyboard layout here??Can you say what OS in order to specify how the keyboard language is set up, please.
Just under the ESC key, shift ` type a tilde in DOS
It should not make any difference in DOS windows is not running. Try a new keyboard
PS how are you entering DOS from the Start button or from a floppy disc
"It should not make any difference in DOS windows is not running."It certainly will, DOS needs the correct code page specified if you use anything other than a US layout keyboard (the DOS default layotu).
To get the keyboard correct in DOS (and in DOS from earlier Windows versions click hereexplains how.Basically you need the command keyb ukin the autoexec.bat file
"DOS needs the correct code page"Sorry - badly put - DOS needs the correct keyboard layout command, as above.
