I'm running Vista on a Sony XL-301, and had been very happy for the last couple of months. Now though, Windows Media Player won't open, unless I "run as administrator". Even when it opens, it won't play video, and although I can open Media Center as normal, that won't play videos either.I've tried doing a System Restore, but that doesn't work. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.
From My Computer>Explore>C drive>Program Files>highlight Windows Media Player>right click>Properties>Security tab>Enable use as required.
That's for XP - don't know if it will work with Vista.
Thanks for that, but the security settings are completely different in Vista I'm afraid. All the security stuff seems to be fine, and I'm confused as to why the not playing video issue arose at exactly the same time.
Try installing the standard K-lite Codecs Pack from:click hereThis covers the needs of virtually all users. An alternative is:click here
turn the account to admin, then run it in there, then go and turn it back to limited again.
Thanks for those tips..the thing is my account IS an administrator account, so I don't really understand why I have to "run as administrator".
