wmp - speaker - problem

I have updated a number of drivers and this has caused a problem.

wmp plays sound, but only through the integrated speakers within the PC screen.

The 5.1 speakers work perfectly when tested, but the sound fails to connect to the external speakers.

I have tried to rollback the updated drivers without luck.
Any advice gratefully received!

Go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and click on the Audio Tab.

In the first section - Sound Playback - is the soundcard set as the Default Device?.

If not click on the drop down arrow and make the selection.

Do the same for 'Sound Recording' as well

Thanks for the advice.
Within a few minutes of posting the system crashed and ended up in a 'bootloop'.

After repairing from the 'Vista' recovery disk. I re-installed some drivers via DriveScanner. It has found several updates - many of which have caused conflicts.

In the end I might just uninstall and stick with the old drivers, that were working fine.
