WM10 mp3 distortion

  [email protected]#36 19:49 02 Mar 2006

I am getting distortion when I play mp3 files on Windows Media 10. The troubleshooting pages suggest that I should find a file called Ctmp3.acm and rename it Ctmp3.bak as WM does not recognise the file.

I have searched for the file but can not find it. Does anyone know where it should be? OR if there is another way of curing the problem.

Inevitably, it will be a hidden system file, so those options will need to be selected when you perform a search. As a possible alternative, I would also suggest a visit to click here in case you can't get it to work. The addition of a new codec might just cure it.

A quick Google search tells me that that file is the Creative Labs mp3 codec. I have a Creative soundcard, but that file is not present on my system. If you do find it, it appears that renaming it is the best thing to do, as you have already read.

I've downloaded Real Player 10.5 which works perfectly. Infact sounds a bit better that WM10.

Thanks for advice.
