Wish to record voice via microphone to hard drive

Voice recognition software for w.p. no good. I need to record instructions for disabled secretary directly to hard drive from desktop microphone. This theoretically easy task is proving a tough nut to crack.

os? have you looked for voice recorder under start/prog/accesories/communications, make a recording and save the file on desktop and she can then access it when required?

What your are looking for is the windows component Sound Recorder. Should be under start programs/Accessories/ as stated above. If not you can install it from your windows disk by:

Settings /control panel /add new programs /add window components.

It's very limited only short messages

It is but there is a work around whereby you can make the recording time longer! - If anyone's interested let me know!

Audacity (2.93 Mb + 600K MP3 encoder) click here Sound-recorder, MP3 Editor

Can save as WAV. You also need to download the LAME encoder to export as MP3, which is better as it will be a much smaller file size. You will probably find that the lowest bitrate of 16 is good enough for dictation.
