Wiring up two floppy dives

I would like to use two floppy drives but my mothrboard only has one connect for the floppy drive ribbon cable?
I have used a single floppy drive connected to this same connection on the motherboard and it works O.K.
But when I go and change the ribbon cable to one with two connetions it will not work! Why?
Yes I have tested both floppy drives and they work fine by themselfs using the single ribbon cable.
I am using a Windows 98 and 500 PIII, the motherboard is an 'Asis' make.

the floppy drive controller will support two floppy drives, sounds like you might need to find a floppy ribbon with two connectors (like your ide cable) plug them in and all will be well.

oops , ididnt read through the whole of your post. chck your bios settings
