hi,
Ive got a bt voyager 2091 modem/wireless router and i would like to put a printer the home network, the printer is an epson stylus photo 915. can i plug the printer into the router or will i need any extra equipment ie print server. im running a laptop and the printer is in and upstairs bedroom next to the router.

Im a novice.
Thanks very much

Your printer is not a network printer so you will not be able to connect it directly to the router.

Do you have another PC besides the laptop? If so, the printer can be connected to that and with everything left switched on, you can set things up to be able to print from your laptop.

Otherwise you will need to get a print server to be wired to the wireless router to be able to print from your laptop wirelessly.

im only running my laptop i haven't got another pc.
I take i have to plug the printer into the print server and then the print server into the wireless router?

As the printer is next tom the router can i use a wired print server? as they're abit cheaper than the wireless type?

Ive never had any experience in networking so im very unsure on what to do, hence the advice.
Thanks

I'm not experienced in setting up print servers so will wait for others to contribute.

In theory, you ought to be able to add a non-wireless print server as an addressable device to your wireless router, which other network clients can see.

I would also presume that your Voyager router provides more sophisticated configuration capabilities to be able to do that (I don't know Voyager equipment).

and yes ~ printer connected to print server, then print server to wireless router.
