I have a friend who has windows vista,he is not very computer savy and as asked me to help him with his problem,he is running windows vista and has a wireless network set up to go online, however it appears that vista scans for new wireless networks every 60 seconds, and this causes him a great deal of lag and somtimes connection loss,he asked me if i could help him turn this scanning off,but i know nothing of vista,i have looked online for answers and as far as i can tell it cant be turned off, unless any one here know different and can tell me how to turn it off?.

Go to Start > Network > Network and Sharing Centre

Click Manage network connections under 'Tasks'

Right-click Wireless Network Connection

Select Properties.

In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialogue box

Click the Wireless Networks tab.

Select other wireless network - Click Properties

Click Connection tab

Uncheck the box "Connect when this network is in range"
