WIRELESS NETWORK PROBLEM

Hi,
I do hope someone can help me. I have a wireless enabled

laptop, and my wife also has a wireless enabled lap top, and I want to

network them together just to share files not the internet. both

laptops have windows home xp2.I have followed all the instructions

and let the wizard do the rest and using a flash stick as the wizard

requested to transfer the data. My son lives next door and has a

broad band connection, which both laptops can pickup with a

68%signal. when I connect the laptops to his with the wireless and

go into my network connections, and then on to the workgroup of

both laptops I can access each computer with the icons and open

the shared file. I have let the wizard make a new network and gave it

a name and configured to use it by ad.hok. both computers now

have the access to the new ad.hok network and show a signal

strengh of 97% on each laptop. on 1 of the laptops it shows in my

network connections and workgroup both the laptop icons, on

clicking on to the other laptop icon a message comes up and states

"you may not have permission to use this network resource, contact

the administer of this server to find out if you have access

permission the network location cannot be reached" On the 2nd

laptop it only shows its own icon and clicking onview workgroups it

comes up with the same message. I do hope I have explained this

good enough as I am 70 and not as good as I used to be
Kind Regards
Peter

Hi,
Thank you for your help. I have done just what you suggested,But it still will not work. Both laptops are picking up the same network connection at a linking signal strength of 97% and both set at peer to peer (add hok ) on my workgroup network eack laptop shows only it own icon, (each laptop has the same workgroup name) I have checked also the I.P. address as suggested one laptop has a I.P. address as 192.168.0.1 and the other has a I.P. address as 10.0.1.4
my document folders on both laptops are ticked as shared.
