wireless network with 3 laptops

I am presently running a wireless network using a belkin N1 wireless router and this serves 3 laptops running vista home premium. One laptop is a HP and the other 2 are Sony Vaio`s. My problem is that on occasions one or more of the laptops loses the wireless connection, although the the router does not lose the connection. When I ask windows to diagnose and repair, it tells me that it can not find the server for microsoft. If I shut the laptop down and re boot then I re establish the connection.
I don`t run the network through a main host machine, but purely run the wireless signal out to the 3 laptops, will this have an affect on the performance of the network?
Have i set up the system up in the wrong way?

Personally I would use a host machine as a server.
