please can ANY one explain IN LAY TERMS WHAT thid device does?

it enables you to wirelessly connect your LAPTOP by using a wireless MODEM/ROUTER, which must also be 'N' draft (apparently the fastest of the 3 drafts available).

So, you need a Wireless Modem/Router, preferably hard-wired (that is with a cross-over cable from the modem straight into your PC).

The LAPTOP CARD ADAPTER (unless your Laptop already has a wireless Lan card inside - most of the newer Laptops do)then once both PC and Laptop are 'talking'to each other, and provided you have the Modem/Router setup with adequate firewall/secutity, WEP is standard I think but WPA/PSK gives a better level of protection, then you can connect to internet wirelessly. I've only just learned all this, but I think it's right! Someone put us straight please if I'm wrong... :-)
