OK I want to have all my music (which I legally own) stored on a hard drive so that i can access it from my computer and via a wireless music reciever connected to my stereo.
I was wanting to use a 320Gb NAS connected to my wireless router to do this. My questions are as follows?
1. Is this even possible? 2. Do I need any software on the NAS to allow the music to stream? 3. I saw an Asus wireless router with a 160Gb hard drive built in which uses itunes media server. Would this be a better option? (although it costs the same as the wireless receiver and 320Gb NAS I have been looking at.)
If you are happy fiddling with wireless settings then you may go for the more capacious 320Gb NAS.
As far as I know a NAS will just present itself on your network like any other device (e.g your computer's hard drive when shared); so just copy the files over to it and set the Music Receiver to look at the NAS.
Just be sure the Music receiver will play the files you have stored first. It may have copy protection that stops it receiving mp3s, or other file types...
