Anyone know of a tool that can be used to detect local wireless networks? It would be very useful so I can set a wireless channel on my router which is away from potential sources of interference. I'm in a built up area with a number of networks appearing when I set "scan for Wireless networks".

Change the ssid in your routers setup to something that you will recognise then you will have no trouble finding yours and make your router a lot harder to crack as it will not show what make it is as the default one will

The issue I have is connecting to a my wireless network using my laptop and gradually seeing the signal deteriorating. I usually start with 54g connection and up with it fluctuating between 18 and 24. This must be interference. All I want to do is set my routers wireless channel two steps away from my various neighbours.

Most of them are set to channel 11 as default if that helps

Yeah thats right. I find Channel 11 can be unuseble at times where I live.
