Wireless Internet Connection

Hi! Stick with me I'm new!
I have just got broadband fitted thro Telewest. Have then bought a wireless router today (Philips SNU5600) to get my broadband around the house. All seems to be connected (says I am connected and has excellent strength). However, when I try to connect to internet via Internet Explorer it says that I it cannot find server. I have tried some of the things I have seen in the forums (eg firewall settings) but no luck. Am I missing something basic?? I had the same thing when I tried to connect to a relative's wireless broadband from my laptop.

have you also bought a router?

do you know the model number of it?

Have you put your internet settings into the router?

Yes, I did also get a router - SNB5600.

I ran thro the installation CD but I'm not sure if I put my internet settings into the router - how would I do that, and what settings would I put in?

Your manual tells you how to do it using the installation CD.

Are all the cables connected as per manual?
Are the LED's on as per page 7 of the manual?

All the lights are on as per the manual except for the internet (@).

I selected Dynamic IP but I am wondering now if I should get the exact details from TElewest as they didn't give me any of that information

How did you set your computer up in the beginning?

  ed-0 19:08 31 Aug 2006

the manual for running setup from the cd

select your broadband modem toe ( dhcp )

enter your broadband settings ( you need to get these from telewest )

wait until the settings are saved

click login ( use your password )

check the status window ( usually greeen when connected )

If it is green or the internet light is constant, you are connected and the router has the settings for the internet.

The good news would be that the router will always be connected to the net and will keep those settings if you switch it off.

Make sure you set up the security after you have setup the connection.

Post back if you need help with the security, someone will come and give you a hand to set it up.

I've asked Telewest to provide the details of the setup and then I'll give that a go when I get them. If I'm still stuck I'll get back!! I'm usually ok with this sort of thing and I thought this would be easy - little did I know! Cheers.
