Wireless home network problem

  silliw 19:54 27 Dec 2004

I am trying to help a friend configure a small wireless network on 2 xp home machines using netgear 54g adaptors. I can get each machine to see eachother but cannot get the client machine to acces the cable internet via the host.

Have run internet sharing wizard on both machines although normally I wouldnt bother but would set this up manually.

I have made a mistake somewhere as the client machine is setup with a manual IP of 192.168...... but somehome a network bridge has appeared and the host machine keeps acquiring an auto IP of 169.254.......

Please put me on the right track if the following setup is wrong.

host IP 192.168.0 ...
Client IP 192.168.0 = increment of 1

Host sub
Client sub the same

Host DNS use the same DNS as his cable modem
Client DNS use same

Client Gateway use host IP address

Delete the gateway as it is not needed

Set the 3com NIC that receives the cable internet to share

I will disable zonealarm and WEP until both machines can access the internet then reset zonealarm then reset WEP.

All responses gratefully accepted if I have missed anything
