I've just conected a wireless router (Netgear UE20b)to my PC so I could share my internet connection wirelessly with my laptop.
Internet | | USB Modem | | PC (Windows XP Pro) (Internet Connection Sharing enabled) | | LAN connection via Ethernet cable (Static IP 192.168.0.1) (Subnet mask 255.255.255.0) (Default gateway 192.168.0.3) (DNS Server 192.168.0.1) | | UE20b Wireless Router (TCP/IP IP Address 192.168.0.2) (IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0) (Multicast = None) (RIP Direction = Both (RIP Version = RIP-1) (Not setup as DHCP Server) | | Laptop (Windows XP Home Edition) (Static IP 192.168.0.5) (Subnet mask 255.255.255.0) (Default gateway 192.168.0.1) (DNS Server 192.168.0.1)
I have Zonelabs and Avast installed but not running on the PC. And I have shutdown Windows firewalls on both machines.
When I switch on the router everything works fine for about 2 minutes (I can access the internet on the laptop):
From the PC I can ping the router (192.168.0.2) and the laptop (192.168.0.5)
From the laptop I can ping the router (192.168.0.5) and the PC (192.168.0.1).
I can also access shared files folders from both locations.
Then inexplicably the connection fails. I cannot ping the router from either the PC or the laptop.
I've deduced therefore that it is the router which is causing the problem but nothing I do will fix the problem.
I'd really appreciate any advice. I've spent literally days trying to sort it out and I've run out of ideas.
