Hi

I've just conected a wireless router (Netgear UE20b)to my PC so I could share my internet connection wirelessly with my laptop.

PC
(Windows XP Pro)
(Internet Connection Sharing enabled)

LAN connection via Ethernet cable
(Static IP 192.168.0.1)
(Subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
(Default gateway 192.168.0.3)
(DNS Server 192.168.0.1)

UE20b Wireless Router
(TCP/IP IP Address 192.168.0.2)
(IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0)
(Multicast = None)
(RIP Direction = Both
(RIP Version = RIP-1)
(Not setup as DHCP Server)

Laptop
(Windows XP Home Edition)
(Static IP 192.168.0.5)
(Subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
(Default gateway 192.168.0.1)
(DNS Server 192.168.0.1)

I have Zonelabs and Avast installed but not running on the PC. And I have shutdown Windows firewalls on both machines.

When I switch on the router everything works fine for about 2 minutes (I can access the internet on the laptop):

From the PC I can ping the router (192.168.0.2) and the laptop (192.168.0.5)

From the laptop I can ping the router (192.168.0.5) and the PC (192.168.0.1).

I can also access shared files folders from both locations.

Then inexplicably the connection fails. I cannot ping the router from either the PC or the laptop.

I've deduced therefore that it is the router which is causing the problem but nothing I do will fix the problem.

I'd really appreciate any advice. I've spent literally days trying to sort it out and I've run out of ideas.

Many thanks

Dion

is not a wireless router, it's an ADSL modem. Take a look at this:-

I'm sorry. I had a bit of a shocker there.

It should read Netgear Wireless Router MR314.

I'm not using the Nortel modem at the moment....

I would suggest that on both pc's you go into "Services" and Stop if running then disable the service "Wireless Zero Configuration" as this continually tries to override any manufacturers software..
