Wireless Drive...?

  AlexPB 16:04 15 Apr 2008

Hi, I have an external hard drive attached to my PC at home. I currently have it set so that I and my brother can both save and access it from our laptop/pc via our wireless network but my PC has to be on as its through the sharing method.

Is there any way that i can get the drive to show up on the network without having to have my pc on, as in connecting it to the router or similar...?

You can get NAS (Network Attached Storage)

It can range from 1 HDD with an ethernet port to a big box with 10 hard drives in it.

Some external hard drives have ethernet ports on them and are designed to be put straight into a router for PC's to access.

The NAS (Freecom Network Drive Pro) works great when connected through the Ethernet cable.

As soon as I put the NAS in to the router
(D-link), no such luck.

Any thoughts??

I'm not entirely computer literate i.e. IP addresses and gateways still a little new to me.

Steep learning curve though, I got the router to work!
