WinXP Home Edition - Changing language

  eddielister 11:32 10 Nov 2004

Evening all, glad I have stumbled on this site. Lots of useful info here.

Can anyone help with the following?

I am English but have just bought a PC in France (where I live some of the time) assuming that I could change the pre-installed winxp language to English. However, although I have been through the motions, and it now says EN at the bottom, everything is still in French!

I have also tried control panel, Regional & language options, Languages tab but there is nothing obvious there.

Is there any way I can get this "Edition Familiale" to work in English, or do I have to pay for a language pack. If so, where do I get them from?

The Microsoft site is most unhelpful!

Thanks in advance,

Control Panel Regional Settings ICON for changing

I'm fairly sure that you will NOT be able to change the French edition to English. The usual advice is to buy an English OS and re-instal.

It's a Drop-down box to change in the above, press the arrow head at the side of France

No, I have changed all the drop down boxes to English, but it hasn't changed a thing!

so backup your data first.

1) Reinstall XP over your existing French version, but choose English (UK), keyboard, etc, plus extra languages including French, as well as UK being the location.

2) Reformat and do a fresh XP installation.
