WinXP Home "can't load windows\system\config file?

I'm running WinXP Home and when re-booting my PC I get an error displayed saying Windows C:System\config file can't be loaded press (r) for recovery or exit. It seems Windows can't load the OS for some reason?

I've cleared this by booting from the XP CDROM and it worked for a week or so but it's now come up with the same error.

Can someone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?
