Please help, My PC starts as normal, recognising the CD/Rom drives ok, then the ME logo appears as normal, but after that, at the C prompt: the following appears: -
C:\WINDOWS\WININIT.EXE

Then, about a third of the way in from the left, appears the following

e h i k l n o p q r s t u v w x y z

followed by these brackets:{}which contain a vertical broken bar sign followed by a series of a's and e's with a variety of foreign accents above them.
I've tried reinstalling the operating system but my CD/Rom doe's not appear to be working.

Has anyone got an answer??

can you start in safe mode and then do an anti virus scan.

No, I can't. but I think I may have found another solution.................................

Get a new hard drive, or better still a new pc. Luckily I did perform a backup before this happened.

anyway thanks for the reply.
