windvr - "Cannot detect device..."

  Newuser2999 09:24 09 Apr 2005

Trying to watch tv on my PC, but unable to install windvr. I used to be able to prior to reformatting the hard disc.
I get the following message, "Cannot detect device. Please check hardware or re-install drivers."

I have tried to re-install using windows un-install and re-install from the original disc that came with my machine (using XP home, over a year ago). Also via a free download of the next version, windvr3.

What hardware should I check?
Appreciate any assistance, as this is driving me mad!

This sounds like and IRQ conflict.
IRQ [Interrupt Reequsts] are commands the system uses to share resources.
IN the P.O.S.T screen [When the machine starts up] you will see the IRQ's and the devices installed and the IRQ's assigned.
Windoze decides what IRQ's are assigned, they cannot be modified.
However when you look you will see what devices are sharing the TV card - if feasable disable/remove those devices.
I Gave up on this years ago - got a secondhand TV instead.

PS Any one want a TV card?
