Windows98 Not "remembering" window settings etc

  Nick052 17:59 07 Sep 2005

My computer has started doing weird things following a drive format and Win98SE reinstall.

Firstly it does not remember the size of the Quick Launch bar (I have posted a separate issue on this; not solved) from boot to boot.

Now, its started not remembering window settings.

For example, if I load a window of C: drive, all my icons are all over and I get scroll bars at the sides. I arrange by date (as I always do), but next time I load the window, its not remembered this and my icons stretch over again. I have tried AutoArrange but thats not remembered either.

Anyone any ideas? Cheers!

Try the system file checker

You need the Win98 CD in place.

And then try downloading Tweak UI 1.33 from click here
Unzip to a Folder right click the INF file and choose install. It puts the program in Control Panel Does all kinds of things including repairing System files. Fonts files etc

After running the System File Checker as suggested above I would also suggest that you run the Internet Explorer Repair Tool in Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ System Information/ Tools then the first item in the drop-down menu (Internet Explorer Repair tool).
This also covers Windows Explorer and Outlook Express.
